Back to Resources for Prayer and Study
“Season of Creation” begins on September 1st, a date chosen in 1989 by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of the Orthodox Church — and now embraced by the wider ecumenical family — as the World Day of Prayer for Creation. Creation Season ends on October 4th, the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, often called the patron saint of ecology. Some churches alternatively celebrate the season beginning on the Feast of St. Francis and ending on the last Sunday after Pentecost. Christians worldwide have embraced the season as part of their annual calendar. More information about the Season of Creation can be found at seasonofcreation.org.
Season of Creation 2024
This year, the Season of Creation is September 1st through October 4th and the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona has endorsed The Season of Creation 2024: A Celebration Guide for Episcopal Parishes.
July 13, 2021 Information Session
On July 13, 2021, The Rev. Pam Hyde, Canon for Creation Care, and The Rev. Steve Keplinger held an information session on Zoom designed to help clergy and worship teams plan and launch a Season of Creation in their churches. If you were unable to attend that session, you can view the recording to learn about creation care theology, hear ideas on how to preach on creation care, get tips on how to incorporate creation care-themed elements into your liturgy during the season, and come up with ideas for parish events you can organize and offer during Creation Season.
