Green Team Partners with Imago Dei School

The Green Team at St. Francis in the Valley has formed a Creation Care/Environmental Partnership  with Imago Dei Middle School, an Episcopal private school focusing on “out of poverty through education.”

On March 22nd, students from the school visited St. Francis and planted flowers, dug water retention ditches, and spread wood chips around the newly planted parking lot trees. While there, they learned the importance of understanding sun movement, water retention techniques, and tree conservation.

The time together was productive and energizing. Most importantly, connections were made between the adults and students as they came together to care for God’s creation. It was a great day!

About Imago Dei Middle School

Founded in 2006, Imago Dei is a small, independent, tuition-free private school in Tucson offering grades 4-8 for children from low-income, under-resourced families. In the Episcopal tradition, Imago Dei provides small class sizes, individual attention, and an extended school day, week, and year. We admit children of diverse faiths, races, cultures, and cognitive profiles.

Imago Dei depends for its financial strength on charitable and tax-credit donations from hundreds of individuals, businesses, and foundations who share our vision of breaking cycles of poverty through quality education. To learn more or donate visit their website: https://www.imagodeischool.org/

About the Green Team at St. Francis in the Valley

The Green Team at St. Francis was inspired by Bishop Michael Curry’s call to Care for Creation.  He believed that tangible, practical, grassroots practices would curb the rapidly changing environment.  A grassroots team was formed in 2023,  and tangible practices are spreading throughout  St. Francis.  In addition, Green Valley neighborhoods and schools are becoming involved. Beginning steps include recycling bins in all rooms at St. Francis and Continental Elementary K-8, paper reduction, cardboard collection, tree planting, and Earth Day awareness presentations. If you’re looking for a way to involve parishioners or would welcome a presentation, we are eager to help! (Zoom or in person)  Please contact Susan Burch sburch33@gmail.com.  Let’s make a difference together!
