Winifrid Follett, recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Women Award

The 51st Triennial Distinguished Women Award has been awarded to Winifrid Follett of The Episcopal Diocese of Arizona

The Distinguished Women Award is given out to women from dioceses throughout the greater church every three years at the Episcopal Church Women’s Triennial which runs in conjunction with the General Convention. Each Diocese is asked to submit one woman each triennial to honor.

This Triennium the Diocese of Arizona has selected Winifrid Follett.

Winifrid Follett is a cradle Episcopalian, born and raised in Northeastern Arizona.

She served 8 years in the USAF.

When she returned to live in Arizona where her parents were, in Cottonwood, she attended St. Thomas, in Clarkdale. While attending Episcopal Church Women meetings with her mom she was involved on the Diocesan level as a representative to the diocesan board. Quickly moving up to President. She then served on the Provincial Episcopal Church Women’s board as Secretary/Treasury from 2006-2009, becoming President in 2012. In 2015 when her term was up, she took a break from Episcopal Church Women to see what Mother God had for her to do next.

She was asked to be the Verger for St. Andrew’s; Sedona and she said yes. She received her certificate as a member of the Verger’s Guild of the Episcopal Church in 2015.

At present along with her duties at St. Andrew’s, she serves not only as their Verger. She is also the  Altar’s Guild director, was the principal leader of the Saturday night Taize service, and all-around technical resource.  She is the go-to person for the Diocese of Arizona if someone has a question about Episcopal Church Women /Women’s Ministries.
